Thursday Thought Relaunch

Hello and welcome to TimeFinders’
Thursday Thoughts!

For those of you who’ve missed us and those new to us, TimeFinders’ Thursday Thoughts are our way of sharing news, ideas and tips with you about everything to do with later life.

To kick-start our Thursday Thoughts, we’re sharing an article from carehome.co.uk on a topic close to many of our clients’ hearts.

Did you know that 43% of care homes are ‘pet-friendly care homes’? TimeFinders has been delighted to have moved several pets successfully with their owners into residential care and have seen first hand the comfort and fun they have brought to both our clients and other residents:

“There was no way in the world I’d have moved without him – I told them I would be on the waiting list some time! Then they showed me a ground floor apartment with a patio door and garden access and said it was quite alright to bring Ferbie too!

I jumped at the chance to move straight in to the new accommodation and it’s so handy having the patio as we can have a morning stroll right into the gardens – which does me good too! It’s been brilliant having Ferbie with me and I needn’t have worried about him barking at people near my door as everyone makes such a fuss of him. He has lots of aunties to tickle him and there are always offers of people to walk him as well as his regular dog walkers.  When I go to appointments or church, my friends help to look after him.

There are other dogs here and there’s an annual Dog Show where the staff and families bring dogs in too – Ferbie has two rosettes already!  I would advise people moving into a care home to think about training dogs to be left alone for short periods for example mealtimes, activities and appointments as constant barking might disturb neighbours who could rightly object and it could prevent you from joining in and be so inconvenient. I think this is often better for dog owners than cats – who don’t stay put if you ask them to!”
