Cupcakes for Alzheimer’s
Last week was Dementia Awareness Week, run by the Alzheimer’s Society to raise money and awareness for their research into Dementia, Alzheimer’s and their related health and welfare challenges. TimeFinders has always been part of the Dementia Friends initiative and we encourage our employees to become Dementia Champions, training other Dementia Friends and helping communities to become Dementia Friendly.
Last week, Helen Ferguson helped create over fifty Dementia Friends over four sessions in Twyford, with attendees including bank staff, Reading FC staff, carers, charity support teams and many relatives and friends of individuals wanting support in managing a dementia diagnosis. Many of these individuals were either aware of dementia but not it’s outward signs, or didn’t know that what they were experiencing with their customers was, in fact, dementia.
“…things my mum does make sense now.”
“We have so many customers displaying signs of confusion – we just want to be more helpful when they come in to us. This is a great start!”
Comments from the Attendees.
Responses like this are why TimeFinders are also dedicated to supporting organizations and communities in raising awareness and creating support networks for those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
This is where the cupcakes come in!
June 15th is officially Cupcake Day! Sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Society, bakers all across Britain put their whisks and ovens to good use baking and buying baked goods to raise money.
Signing up is online and very simple – if you or anyone you know has the need for an excuse to bake (safe in the knowledge that there will be others to eat the results and to raise money doing so!) follow the link here.
We would also love to hear from you! Whilst this is not an advertising space, we are always happy to encourage and support communities and organizations that seek to raise awareness, offer support and engage in discussions surrounding the challenges and development of an ever-ageing society.
